Mark C. Berner is the co-founder, with senior executives of the John Templeton Foundation, of Sage Philanthropy Ventures, which designs pre-vetted impact portfolios for high net worth donors, the first two of which are in education and health. He also is the founder of Woodbridge Education, a higher education start-up whose mission is to provide a rigorous liberal education integrated with character development, civic engagement and workforce preparation for a fraction of the cost of a traditional college degree. The model blends online learning with classroom seminars, with a focus on cities with large underserved student populations. The core academic team is comprised of senior academics from Yale, Columbia, MIT, Duke, Johns Hopkins and similar institutions. Mr. Berner has been an entrepreneur (SDG Resources); hedge fund manager (Credit Suisse/First Boston); attorney (Anderson Kill) and foundation trustee and advisor (Templeton). He has degrees from Yale, Oxford and Villanova.
