Hian Teck Hoon is a Professor of Economics and the Associate Dean, School of Economics, Singapore Management University. He is also a member of the Center on Capitalism and Society at Columbia University. He obtained his Ph.D. in economics at Columbia University in 1990. He specialises in macroeconomics, international trade, and economic growth. Since 2000, he has published several op-eds on issues of policy interest with relevance to the Singapore economy dealing with the nature and challenges of growth and business fluctuations, joblessness, and rewards to low-wage earners. He is a past Vice-President of the Economic Society of Singapore (2002-2004) and has served as co-editor of the Singapore Economic Review since January 2002.
