Philip K. Howard has been appointed Adjunct Senior Research Scholar at the Center on Capitalism and Society at Columbia University. A member of the Center’s Advisory Board, Mr. Howard is a leading thinker on government and legal reform in America. His four books — The Rule of Nobody (Norton, 2014), best-seller The Death of Common Sense (Random House, 1995), The Collapse of the Common Good (Ballantine Books, 2002) and Life Without Lawyers (Norton, 2009) — meld legal, economic, and social thinking into a narrative about structures that can nurture individual initiative. He also writes periodically for the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and the New York Times. In 2002, Mr. Howard formed Common Good, a nonpartisan national coalition dedicated to restoring common sense to all three branches of American government.
